Ranging in colour from the best known greens , yellow, orange and even lilac and black.
In 1863 a French scientist Damour discovered that two different stones were both called jade One wass Jadite and the other was Nephrite.
Jade has been prized throughout history. 3000BC in China Jade was known as the royal stone and was even carved into coats of armour and weapons. It is famed for being stronger than steel yet soft enough to carve.
The Aztecs prized it more than Gold.
Found in Central America, Asia and New Zealand.
