The garnet is widely believed to be a deep red colour, but infact, the Garnet comes in a whole variety of colours including orange, yellow, green, blue and black. There are even garnets that can change colour.
The name garnet comes from the Latin grain (most probably associated with the word pomegranate whose fruit is small pips of fruit with a garnet like size and colour.
Garnets have been used since the Bronze age.
Legend says that Noah’s ark is thought to have been lit by a lamp containing a garnet.
